Case in point: I was coaching a high school student who had a very interesting, yet not unique experience with regard to forgetfulness. Now, forgetting is something that occurs quite often for adults and teens with ADHD-ironically the individual will often promise that they did indeed do something that never happened. Will the REAL cause of ADHD please Stand Up?

Will the REAL cause of ADHD please Stand Up?

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is becoming something of an epidemic … or so some would think. Over the last few decades, the number of children in the U.S. diagnosed with this condition has risen sharply, with numbers peaking in 2011. About 5.2 million children ages three to 17 have been diagnosed, and this number continues to grow, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. ADHD is characterized primarilyby inattentiveness, impulsivity, and restlessness, making it hard for children with ADHD to focus in school. Children with a history of ADHD are about 10 times as likely to have problems that interfere with their friendships, while parents of children with a history of ADHD are three times as likely to have peer problems with other parents who aren’t affected by ADHD.
